Shortly after completing my undergraduate degree, I was offered
a part-time position with JMT as a GIS Technician. During that
time, I learned a great deal as I played an active role in all
aspects of the project's life cycle, from data preparation and
field collection to analysis and delivery to the client. In
addition, I thoroughly enjoyed coming to work and interacting with
other professionals who were competent and caring. The family-like
environment within my department was an advantage over many other
corporations and heavily influenced my decision to accept a full
time position. Since then, I have worked on a variety of
projects with a gradual increase of overall responsibilities. My
transition from entry level Technician to an Analyst managing
projects has been facilitated through the vast number of
professional development resources offered by JMT.
Through our Mentoring Program, I was able to pinpoint a general
direction for career growth in an area that interested me. With the
full backing of my managers, I returned to school part time to
complete a Master of Engineering program in Transportation. I
quickly discovered the tremendous support network companywide: my
degree was financed through our Tuition Reimbursement Program, my
classes were accommodated through a flexible work schedule, and my
co-workers in various departments provided a wealth of knowledge in
their areas of expertise for homework assignments and school
projects. In addition, my managers challenged me through new
projects at work and understood the importance of continuous
training, conference attendance and professional organization
membership. I can confidently say that JMT's nurturing environment
and career development benefits allowed me to grow into the
successful professional that I am today.
