Gettysburg Transit Center Ribbon-Cutting
June 18, 2012Location: Sparks, Maryland
The York Adams Transportation Authority (YATA) hosted a
ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 14, 2012, at the newly constructed
Gettysburg Transit Center. This transit hub will provide a
much-needed redevelopment opportunity for the Gettysburg community
and tourists visiting one of the nation's most famous small
towns.
The transit center is located one block from the Gettysburg
square within the Gettysburg Battlefield Historic District, and
situated on a rail line opposite the historic Gettysburg Railroad
Station. The architectural and site design for the transit center
was developed using a design compatible with existing historic
structures, including the nearby railroad station.
The facility consists of a 1,500 SF bus transfer center, outdoor
open and covered plaza areas, patron seat walls, bicycle
facilities, landscaping and water quality rain gardens, lighting,
wayfinding signage, historic panels, and other site amenities. YATA
will use this facility as part of the existing trolley service to
the downtown, community and nearby Gettysburg Battlefield and
attractions. The transit center also provides access to
existing Freedom Transit bus/trolley operations, serves as a
boarding location for the rabbitEXPRESS service between Gettysburg
and Harrisburg, and is positioned to be a station for potential
future commuter rail travel.
JMT was responsible for the overall project management,
preparing the final construction plans and specifications, bidding
services, and providing post-award construction management and
inspection on behalf of YATA. In addition, JMT staff secured
local land development and zoning approvals for the proposed site
development and provided final civil/site construction plans, MEP
and structural building design plans.
