Green Tracks Pilot Project Showcased

JMT received recognition in Landscape Architecture's
July 2011 issue for the Green Tracks pilot project currently
underway for the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA).
Certain sedum and turfgrass plant species have been planted within
and alongside MTA's existing central light rail line to test the
species' durability. If the pilot project proves successful,
these plantings may be applied to enhance areas along the MTA's
proposed Red Line, a 14-mile light rail transit line in Baltimore
which is currently in the preliminary engineering phase.
JMT is leading a multi-disciplinary, multi-firm team in this
unique application of green tracks for light rail transit
purposes. Thus far, the sustainability potential of the
plantings appears to be favorable, according to Jon Conner, ASLA,
LEED® AP, JMT Vice President and Lead Landscape Architect.
"Most of the pilot locations have seen plant establishment with
minimal maintenance. So far, we're feeling good about the
potential for green tracks on the Red Line."
The pilot project will continue through 2012.
