Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New School
June 6, 2012Location: Sparks, Maryland
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Baltimore City
Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke, and Baltimore City Public Schools CEO
Dr. Andrés A. Alonso all attended the groundbreaking ceremony for
the new Waverly Elementary/Middle School on Tuesday, June 5, 2012.
This celebration marks the first new school building
construction in Baltimore since 1998.
JMT is excited to provide on-site construction management
services to monitor progress and maintain the construction
schedule, including two full-time and one part-time staff
members.
The new, three story building will combine the existing Waverly
Middle School and Elementary School into a single, expanded
educational facility based on the City Schools model. The $26
million, 118,000 square foot facility, located at 3400 Ellerslie
Avenue, will be LEED Silver certified and include both a 'green'
roof and an underground parking garage. The project will be
constructed in two phases to allow the existing Waverly Middle and
Elementary Schools to remain in operation throughout the
project.
Phase 1 is scheduled to be completed in December 2013.
