Fairfield-Masonville Marine Terminals Connector Road

Location: Baltimore, Maryland Client: Maryland Port Administration

JMT completed roadway and structural design for a port enhancement project.

JMT completed the development of Preliminary Investigation, Final, and PS&E level contract documents for the construction of a roadway connecting the Fairfield and Masonville Marine Terminals to facilitate the expansion of an automobile importing/storage operation at the Port of Baltimore.

The roadway crossed three major drainage channels, requiring the design of twin 36" RCCP, twin 19" x 30" HERCP and single 24" storm drain culverts, end walls and gabion channel protection.

The project's location adjacent to the Patapsco River and within the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area created additional, unique challenges.  JMT incorporated reforestation and Best Management Practices into our design in order to protect the water quality of the nearby tidal areas.  We obtained approvals from the Critical Area Commission for Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays, and a Joint Permit for permitting and design of wetland mitigation area.  Two perimeter sand filter facilities were designed for stormwater management.
