GIS Expansion Program Management
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Client: City of Baltimore
JMT's Technology Group supported the development and expansion
of an initiative to extend GIS in a major city.
For more than a decade, JMT performed project management
services for the expansion of the City of Baltimore's Geographic
Information Systems (GIS). The City sought to develop a highly
accurate and detailed GIS within the Department of Public Works,
and JMT assisted the City with the development and expansion of
this system. Specific services included:
- Our on-site staff managed the City's Oracle database of
planimetric, topographic and utility data related to GIS.
- JMT interfaced with consultants producing GIS data for the
Bureau of Water and Wastewater and completed quality assurance
testing of submitted data before loading it onto City servers to be
made available for general use. We also developed QA/QC
procedures and methods.
- JMT created a point layer of the City's utility facilities
including treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, tanks,
maintenance yards and dams.
- We developed data access guidelines and a system to support
public access of the gathered information.
- JMT staff assisted in the preparation of strategic
implementation plans and other system documentation.
The Department of Public Works now has an extremely robust asset
to rely on in its GIS program, which helps greatly in
decision-making and project delivery.
